The other function of this diversion is to confuse the whole Mugabe succession debate. If Grace is elevated to Women’s League Chair, it sends the message to presidential hopefuls that there is another viable candidate.

This of course is convenient for Robert Mugabe, who deliberately refuses to appoint or groom a successor. Remaining in office is crucial if one aspires to avoid an endless list of charges for crimes against humanity.
