Mesmerised by first world splendour of Beijing, the people entrusted with the lives of 13million Zimbabweans shopped so hard that they lost track of time. And the value of time is not something that the honourable MPs care about. In two weeks’ time, it will be a full year since this do-nothing, luxury-car-driving bunch was elected (or rigged) into the august house.
It is almost impossible to believe that this group of self-serving parliamentarians cares much for the constituents, whose daily problems range from Matebeleland’s perennial hunger to Chingwizi’s homelessness and disease. When the honourable MPs get around to amending these 450 laws, perhaps they can also debate a new term of address because “honourable” has long become unfitting.
Deputy foreign affairs minister Chris Mutsvanga is foaming at the mouth and howling at the moon in anger because his boss, Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, omitted him from a delegation to China.
Mutsvanga says he is more capable and more experienced than the junior officials who have travelled to the Far East without him. Placed on a glass slide and viewed under a microscope, the truth might show traces of Mutsvanga’s anger at the opportunity to claim travel allowances and hit the shopping malls.
