via Multimedia: Chi-town mayor, clerk flee as angry workers protest July 4, 2014 by Moses Matenga
Chitungwiza Town mayor Philip Mutoti, clerk George Makunde and other officials on Friday reportedly fled from their offices after over 100 municipal workers besieged the town house demanding to be paid their due salaries.
Chitungwiza workers have gone for 13 months without getting salaries.
Mutoti could not be immediately available for comment but when NewsDay arrived at the scene, the angry workers were still milling around, vowing not to break the protest until they got their salaries.
This week Makunde told Parliament that most of the senior council officials were now forced to work from home as they feared confrontation with the unpaid “violent workers”
