FARM INVASIONS UPDATE -

STATEMENT MADE BY MINISTER OF JUSTICE EMMERSON
MNANGAGWA
Ziana reports the Minister of Justice Emmerson Mnangagwa as
saying the President intends to invoke the Presidential Powers Act for 6
months to repeal part of the Land Acquisition Act of 1992 within the next 10
days to make it conform with the recent Constitutional Amendment.
Redistribution of land will begin by mid-May, he said. The stance of
Britan does not matter, said Mnangagwa.
REGIONAL
REPORTS
Mashonaland Central
There were two new invasions in Mvurwi
today. The labourers on Portlock Farm were assaulted, and the labourers on
Dundry Farm (Mtepatepa) have been threatened.
There are 250 invaders are
in the Concession area and this number is building up.
Mashonaland
West North
The foreman on Kelston Farm in Raffingora (invaded yesterday) was
badly assaulted.
On Slaughter Farm 14 invaders have taken over the the
vacant farmhouse.
Police are investigating.
The leader of the war vets,
Hunzvi, was in the area yesterday telling war vets not to interfere with
land prep. However, he message has not spread and only two farms have been
allowed to continue working. Massive land prep prevention continues in the
region
Extensive intimidation and re-education of labour is ongoing in
the region due to upcoming political rallies.
Mashonaland West
South
Quiet
Mashonaland East
On Lushington Farm in Marondera, every single male and female labourer was assaulted. 10 people have been
hospitalised, but their situation is not critical.
Matabeleland
The
region is generally quiet but there is extensive movement
and activity ongoing. Some farmers have now returned to their
farms.
Masvingo
On Humani Ranch an impala has been killed. Police
reaction is slow and invaders are still present (war vets and poachers) at
the time of writing
On Mkwasine Ranch, the caretaker and labour have all
been threatened.
There is a work stoppage; workers have been ordered to
stay in the compound, and game scouts are not allowed to patrol
On
Masapas and Levanga Ranches there is a massive poaching exercise going on.
There are snares everywhere and the situation is out of
control.
Midlands
There has been some movement in Shurugwi and
Somabula, and a few new invasions in the region.
A farmer has moved off
his farm in Mvuma due to threats.
War vets are holding meeting in
Featherstone on Monday.
Manicaland
There was a peaceful walk-on in
Headlands. The region is otherwise quiet.
