IT’s all systems go in Chinhoyi for the 23rd Zanu PF National People’s Conference, with accreditation of delegates and final logistical preparations underway ahead of the official opening of the gathering on Friday.
The conference, which will be held at Chinhoyi University of Technology is expected to attract more than 7 000 delegates from across the country, with Mashonaland West province putting final arrangements in place to ensure a smooth and successful event.
Accreditation and other support services were underway at Cooksey Hall yesterday, while exhibitors were putting final touches to their stands at CUT in preparation for the two-day conference.
Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka told Zimpapers yesterday that the province was ready to welcome delegates.
“Everything is going on smoothly and efficiently as the conference preparations progress. We are committed to ensuring that delegates are accommodated and that everything is in place for a successful conference,” she said.
Cde Mliswa-Chikoka said October 12 to 14 had been set aside for final logistical preparations and accreditation, while Thursday would be dedicated to the arrival of delegates ahead of the official proceedings on Friday and Saturday.
Delegates are expected to return to their respective provinces on Sunday, October 18.
Meanwhile, Zanu PF Security Department deputy director Mrs Alice Masenguridza, who is overseeing the accreditation process in Chinhoyi, said the exercise was approximately 99 percent complete.
“All provinces have undergone accreditation, and the process is now approximately 99 percent complete.
“We are maintaining strict security measures to ensure that only duly accredited delegates and authorised personnel gain access to the conference venue.
“Every individual will be required to undergo the necessary verification procedures, and we will not compromise on security. These measures are designed to maintain order and ensure that the conference proceeds smoothly,” she said.
Preparations for the conference have also included infrastructure improvements and beautification projects across Chinhoyi, with the gathering expected to leave a lasting legacy for the provincial capital.
The province has been working on several legacy projects, including road rehabilitation and water infrastructure improvements, some of which are expected to be commissioned by President Mnangagwa during the conference.
Chinhoyi Municipality police and the Zimbabwe Republic Police have also started managing traffic in the central business district to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and people during the high-profile event.
The 23rd Conference is expected to bring together party delegates and other invited participants for deliberations on party programmes and national development priorities.
