THE Ministry of Mines and Mining Development has begun a three-month exercise to digitise the country’s mining title records through the Mining Cadastre Information Management System.

The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Thomas Utete Wushe, in an official statement yesterday.

The MCIMS is a centralised digital platform designed to manage mining titles — including claims, special grants, mining leases, exclusive prospecting orders, and permits — to ensure an accurate register of mineral rights.

It also provides a transparent and accessible database for all stakeholders, including Government officials, investors, and communities, to track and monitor mining activities in the country.

“The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development is digitising its mining title records through the Mining Cadastre Information Management System (MCIMS) to create a complete, accurate and accessible register of mineral rights.

“The data capture phase will run for approximately 90 days at the Ministry’s Head Office in Harare and provincial offices in Bindura, Bulawayo, Chinhoyi, Gwanda, Gweru, Marondera, Masvingo and Mutare. Teams appointed by the Ministry will conduct the exercise within Ministry offices and will carry official identification at all times,” he said.

Dr Utete Wushe stated that title holders whose surveyed coordinates are not currently on file are urged to submit the title or claim number and holder’s name, the surveyed coordinates defining the claim or licence area (indicating the coordinate reference system used), and a copy of the survey plan, survey diagram, or beacon certificate supporting the coordinates.

“Submissions should be made to the provincial mining office where the title is registered within 90 days. Coordinates will be verified by the Ministry’s survey staff before being recorded,” he added.

The Permanent Secretary assured stakeholders that all records will remain in Ministry custody, will be handled in strict confidence, and that no payment is required for this exercise.

He called on all stakeholders to cooperate with Ministry officials in the Government’s endeavour to build a modern, accurate, and reliable mining cadastre.
