
Zimbabwe was honoured to qualify for the cricket World Cup 2019, while Heath Streak is sure-footed in his charges’ success.
The most intriguing event in the world of bat-and-ball games kicks off in England on 30 May 2019, with the group stages taking place at several Zimbabwean venues this March. Notably, the qualifiers were to be held in Bangladesh, yet the organizers moved it to Zimbabwe, since Bangladesh got the spot in the Cup automatically.
“We are looking forward to be the hosts of this intriguing qualifications event. This will give us the opportunity to watch the world’s most renowned cricket players and teams in our great country,” said Mukuhlani, who is current Zimbabwean head of cricket.
The hosts of the games, England, will be granted automatic qualification, whereas seven top-ranked countries will move straight to the Cup as well. The latest updates of the ICC Cricket rankings may be checked at Stakers.com. A further two spots will be available to the best qualifiers in March.
The team, under the guidance of Heath Streak, holds pretty good chances of winning its spot in the upcoming competition. Recently, Streak’s team managed to defeat Sri Lanka by a remarkable 12 runs. The 100th match at Bangla National Stadium provided the fans with a thrilling contest between the two teams. Besides, the Zimbabwean team provided a great performance during the Cup in 2015, and today, with a number of notable players, Streak may be confident in team’s qualification to the next rounds.
34 qualification matches will be held at four different stages from March 4 to March 25. Afghanistan, Ireland, The West Indies and Zimbabwe failed to qualify automatically as the teams didn’t get enough points in the standings. These countries will be locked in a tough battle for their place in the Cup. The final event will determine the winners at Harare Sports Club.
The division of 10 qualifying teams of the World Cup 2019 is set in the following way: two groups, Group A and Group B, include 5 teams each – Zimbabwe is in Group B. Scotland, Hong Kong, Afghanistan and the team ranked 2nd in WCL Division 2 will share the Group B with Streak’s team.
Zimbabwe’s team will face the following opponents: Afghanistan on March 6, Hong Kong on March 10 and finally Scotland on March 12.
