Cop shoots colleague over girlfriend

Cop shoots colleague over girlfriend – NewZimbabwe 12/03/2016

A NIGHT shift patrol nearly turned fatal after a Harare police officer stationed shot workmate after she refused to allow him access into a property where his girlfriend works as a maid.

Llyod Salobe, 29, who is based Tomlison Depot, reportedly abandoned his guard duties in a residential area where he was assigned and proceeded to 14236 Strakker Avenue Gunhill where his girlfriend works.

The Gunhill property was also under police guard with Salobe’s colleague Hazel Mutasa on duty.

Court heard that Salobe rang his girlfriend, Caroline Katyamakwara, and told her that he was coming round to visit.

And, around 9:30 pm, Mutasa heard a knock on her guard room door and, as per security procedures, asked for the password from the person knocking.

Court heard Salobe responded with the correct password and Mutasa, believing the person knocking was a member of her shift, opened the door.

She was however surprised to see the accused putting on a police STU cap armed with an AK but covering his face with a mask.

Salobe then ordered Mutasa not follow his orders and Mutasa dropped her gun in apparent surrender.

Court heard Salobe then grabbed Mutasa and tripped her to the ground. Fearing for her life, the female cop wrestled her colleague and managed to disarm him.

She then rushed to the door intending to raise alarm with people who were sleeping inside but Salobe tripped her again.

Salobe then cocked his gun and shot Mutasa once in the abdomen.

Realising what he had done, and thinking his colleague was dead, Salome climbed over the security wall and fled the scene.

The case was reported and a spent cartridge which matched Salobe’s service rifle was recovered on Mutasa. He was arrested subsequently.
