THE inaugural Zimbabwe Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF) Global Summit has opened in Victoria Falls, bringing Government, business, labour, investors and other stakeholders together for high-level discussions on how Zimbabwe can accelerate inclusive economic growth and create opportunities through investment and industrialisation.
The five-day summit, running from September 21 to 25 under the theme “Inclusive Growth, Decent Work, Beneficiation & Investment Promotion,” marks a major expansion of the country’s tripartite social dialogue platform onto an international stage.
Discussions are centred on the intersection of economic growth, employment, investment and industrial development, with stakeholders expected to explore ways of translating policy dialogue into practical outcomes for Zimbabwe’s economy.
The summit is being held under the theme “Inclusive Growth, Industrialisation, Smart Investment & Policy Coherence”. On Monday, discussions are focusing on how Government, business, labour and civil society can work together to strengthen socio-economic outcomes.
The discussions come as Zimbabwe seeks to attract investment, expand industrial production, strengthen indigenous businesses and create decent employment opportunities.
TNF chairperson and Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Edgar Moyo said ahead of the summit that Zimbabwe’s experience with tripartite dialogue had demonstrated the value of bringing Government, business and labour together.
“Zimbabwe’s Tripartite Negotiating Forum has demonstrated that when Government, business and labour work together in structured dialogue, the results are transformative,” he said.
Minister Moyo said the global summit provides an opportunity to take that experience beyond Zimbabwe while engaging investors and international partners on the country’s economic development priorities.
The opening-day programme is covering inclusive economic growth, decent work, investment promotion and policy coherence, before moving into discussions on MSME access to finance and markets, digital infrastructure and cybersecurity, regional integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area and wealth creation through indigenous businesses.
The summit’s official opening is scheduled for Wednesday.
As the summit gets underway, attention is now turning to the discussions and engagements expected to shape Zimbabwe’s economic and social development agenda over the next five days.
