GOVERNMENT has hailed President Mnangagwa’s resilience, sacrifice and transformative leadership as he turns 84 today and said the country is firmly on course towards attaining upper-middle-income status by 2030 under his watch.
In a congratulatory message marking President Mnangagwa’s birthday, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, on behalf of officials in the Office of the President and Cabinet, joined the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa and the President’s family in wishing the Head of State good health and many more years of visionary leadership.
Dr Rushwaya said President Mnangagwa’s life represented decades of struggle, sacrifice and service to Zimbabwe, tracing his journey from humble beginnings in rural colonial Rhodesia to the highest office in the land.
“In marking and celebrating this milestone, your Office and the whole Nation acknowledge a life of struggle, sacrifice, service, commitment and transformative leadership which you embody and personify,” he said.
Dr Rushwaya said the President’s resilience was demonstrated by his survival of the threat of execution during the colonial era and his subsequent rise to national leadership.
He credited President Mnangagwa’s administration with steering Zimbabwe towards a development trajectory anchored on the country’s own resources and capabilities.
“Under your leadership, Zimbabwe has transformed from sanctions-related arrested growth and development into a dashing, prospering and forward-looking Nation which is poised to attain an Upper Middle-Income Status by 2030,” said Dr Rushwaya.
He said the transformation was largely attributable to President Mnangagwa’s stewardship and his ability to mobilise Zimbabweans around the philosophy of self-driven development encapsulated by the mantra: “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.”
Dr Rushwaya said Zimbabwe was increasingly pursuing a development model based on its own natural endowments and efforts rather than dependence on external support.
“As you open yet another year in your eventful life, the Office remains staunchly and steadfastly behind your efforts and initiatives, all of them trained towards the attainment of Vision 2030, through the instrumentality of the Second National Development Strategy, NDS2,” he said.
