ZINWA is intensifying the installation of prepaid water meters at growth points and towns across the country after taking delivery of over 5 000 prepaid water meters.

The move seeks to address nagging billing issues while allowing consumers greater control over their water consumption.

ZINWA head of corporate communications and marketing Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said the water authority had started prepaid water meter installation at Nyika Growth Point in Bikita district.

This followed a similar exercise at Mpandawana Town in Gutu district. Mrs Munyonga said the installation programme is going to continue at Jerera Growth Point in Zaka District and in Chirundu Town along the border with Zambia.

“The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) has begun a prepaid water meter roll-out in Nyika, Bikita, following a successful roll-out in Gutu last month,” she said.

“The authority has taken delivery of 5 250 prepaid meters for roll-out and installation in Gutu, Nyika, Chirundu and Zaka, among other centres.

“Once the installations in Nyika are completed, the rollout is expected to move to the border town of Chirundu,” added Mrs Munyonga.

To date, 2 026 prepaid water meters have been installed in targeted business centres, growth points and towns around the country.

According to Mrs Munyonga, the programme was implemented in Mvurwi and Chivhu towns in 2021.

”Since then, ZINWA has installed prepaid water meters in Chivhu, Mvurwi, Murambinda, Guruve, Murehwa, Mutoko, Nyanga, Hwange, Gokwe, Filabusi, Karoi and Glendale.

“Prepaid water meters allow water users to pay for their water in advance, affording them greater convenience and control over their water consumption patterns,” Mrs Munyonga said.
