The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecast very hot conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
In an advisory issued on Saturday, 17 October, the MSD said very hot weather is expected from 18 to 20 October 2026 due to increased daytime temperatures. The warning covers the whole country.
The MSD said the heat is being driven by reduced cloud cover and more sunshine hours. It warned that people may sweat profusely and feel dehydrated, while increased transpiration may cause heat stress in plants. Livestock and pets may also suffer from heat stress.
“Beginning tomorrow, Sunday, 18 October through Tuesday, 20 October 2026, very hot weather conditions are expected to prevail across much of the country under sunny skies,” the MSD said.
“Temperatures are likely to rise significantly during the afternoon, particularly in low-lying areas such as the Zambezi and Save Valleys.”
The MSD, in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, advised the public to take precautions, including staying hydrated by drinking adequate amounts of water as advised by a certified health practitioner, protecting themselves from direct sunshine by wearing a sunhat, shades or using an umbrella, and staying indoors where possible.
Farmers have been advised to water or irrigate crops when heat stress is noted, as recommended by local Agritex and Ardas officers, and to ensure animals have adequate drinking water.
Members of the public have also been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
