The Smart Traffic Management System (STMS) is now fully functional in selected Central Business Districts across the country, police have said.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Saturday the system is designed to promote responsible driving, ease traffic congestion, improve enforcement of road traffic laws and enhance safety for all road users.
“Above all, the system will ensure that law-abiding Zimbabweans are not inconvenienced while punishing errant driving conduct on the roads,” he said.
He said the system uses cameras strategically deployed in CBDs to automatically detect traffic violations. When a violation is detected, a notification is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle via mobile phone, with a link to view details of the offence.
Nyathi said no agents have been contracted to collect fines on behalf of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, either physically or electronically.
He said motorists should verify the status of their violations and any outstanding deposit fines only through the official platforms, www.paymyfines.co.zw and www.paymyfines.gov.zw. Alternatively, they can seek assistance and settle outstanding fines at ZRP Harare Central Traffic, ZRP Warren Park Traffic, ZRP Avondale Traffic, Milton Park Police Station, Marlborough Police Station, Malbereign Police Station, ZRP Mbare Traffic and ZRP Chitungwiza Traffic.
Nyathi urged all motorists to observe road traffic rules and regulations, exercise caution on the roads and comply with the law at all times.
He also implored Zimbabweans to ensure their vehicle ownership records are in order and reflect the current owner’s details, to avoid legal and financial liability, including being held accountable for violations committed after a vehicle has changed hands.
