GOVERNMENT and private developers on Thursday expressed their commitment to a Smart Zimbabwe by 2030, with one of the players pledging to lay one billion bricks by 2050 to address the housing crisis.

They said this during the Smart Zimbabwe Conference and Expo, which kicked off in Harare on Wednesday.

ICT, Postal and Courier Services minister Tatenda Mavetera outlined the key pillars of the Smart Zimbabwe 2030 master plan.

“Each pillar aims to leverage technology to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility,” she said.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master Plan on March 7, emphasising the critical role of ICT in driving the nation’s development.

The government is expanding connectivity options, including the authorisation of low earth orbit satellite technology to complement existing networks, Mavetera said.

Private sector players, such as WestProp Holdings, are already investing in Smart Infrastructure projects, the company’s chief executive Ken Sharpe said.

Sharpe said the private developer plans to develop world-class, vertically intergrated, premium lifestyle communities in Zimbabwe utilising technology to control and manage amenities.

“Smart Zimbabwe presents immense opportunities for innovation and growth, we are committed to supporting this vision through our projects in Millennium Heights, Pokugara Residential Estate and Pomona City, with one billion bricks by 2050,” he said.
