The head of the African Union on Wednesday said the crisis in Zimbabwe “seems like a coup” and called on the military to halt their actions and restore constitutional order.

Alpha Conde, who is also Guinea’s president, said the AU condemned the actions of top brass in the southern African nation as “clearly soldiers trying to take power by force”.

“The African Union expresses its serious concern regarding the situation unfolding in Zimbabwe,” a statement expressing support for the country’s “legal institutions”.

The African body further demanded “constitutional order to be restored immediately and calls on all stakeholders to show responsibility and restraint,” it added.

The Zimbabwean military took control of the country on Wednesday after a struggle to succeed 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe erupted in public, culminating in the sacking of the vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mugabe is under house arrest, according to a conversation reported by President Jacob Zumaof South Africa.

Mugabe “indicated that he was confined to his home but said that he was fine,” the South African government said in a statement.- AFP

As long as dear Robert is okay. It really is a big worry for the world at large – I mean his safety really is paramount, surely? I mean he is a living legend and living treasure – an absolute icon of moral and political integrity? Poor Robert.

The AU must observe, support and encourage the proceedings in Zimbabwe. They must not condemn the military for the stance the took. Mugabe and his wife left them no option. Assist and guide them to a happy ending

The People of Zimbabwe are Happy at these developments Clearly rigged elections have not been able to help the Zimbabweans.

Its Not like we voted for him he rigged now maybe a different form of power shift may help gratify the needs and desires of the people.

The army is helping the suffering Zimbabweans which clearly the AU heads do not care about.

Make a public survey in Zim and u will realize that the Zimbabweans realy and truly want the old man to give way.

Our economy is worse than that of a war-torn country we cant keep applauding our hands at AU Summits ignoring the grim taking place in Zimbabwe.

At least the military is taking steps in the right direction This country really needed an independent way out.

Unfortunately the media and Broadcasters have been infiltrated so they only paint an emerge to the world of people who are happy yet in really the masses are struggling.

All AU heads know of the Atrocities doen to the people of Zimbabwe even to this day. They where QUiet when sons and daughters of Zimbabwe disappeared with out a trace yet the AU leaders have never in any of the numerous occasions condemned these actions.
The economy of Zimbabwe has been brought to its knees yet the AU Leaders have remained Quiet.

Land was repossesed from farmers unfairly
the Bulk of The same land has been taken by Top GVT Officials and many ZImbabweans remain without access or alocation of the same land

Billions of US Dollars Worth of Funds AND assets intended for the Benefit of the people have been embesseled by a few top GVT officials

The Judiciary system has been tempered with to favour a few fairness in judiciary may cost an arm and a neck.

the civil service is wretched with groomed corruption

A small faction within the party enjoys unattended looting and command in terms of who goes and who stays

There are many more evils that have befell ZImbabwe at the hands of these criminals and the AU never questioned or even said a word about the ZImbabwean Situation.

Now that we have A solution on the Horizon the AU now emerges to block or disturb our salvation. Where Was AU All along when the masses where suffering.

Mugabe is a legend and now its time for him to make amends that lead to change in governance and national development
