THE City of Bulawayo has advised residents and stakeholders that in terms of Chapter 2, Part 1 Section 5 of the Model Building By-Laws of Zimbabwe, no building work shall be undertaken unless and until plans have been submitted and approved by the local authority.

In a statement, acting town clerk, Mr Tennyson Mpunzi, said in line with Statutory Instrument 56 of 2025 amending the Architects’ Act Chapter 27.01, such plans should be prepared by architects, technologists, technicians and draught persons who are registered with the Architects Council of Zimbabwe (ACZ).

“As such, with effect from December 1, 2025, the City of Bulawayo will only accept plans prepared by such persons.

“Developers, residents and stakeholders are therefore advised to verify the status of persons or entities preparing their plans in line with Statutory Instrument 56 of 2025 before the plans are forwarded for submission to the council.

“The list of ACZ registered persons or entities is available at the Building Control Reception at the Revenue Hall next to Counter 1 and on the 8th floor reception, Tower Block Municipal Building.

“Verification can also be made with the Architects Council of Zimbabwe on +26324 (2) 704242 or www. zimarchitects.com,” read the statement.
