THE Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe is offering registration on the spot for drone operators during the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).
The requirements are; for individuals—correctly completed CA Form 505, a Zimbabwean national ID or valid passport of any nationality, proof of drone ownership (purchase receipt or affidavit/notary signed by a Commissioner of Oaths).
For corporate, they are required to have a Zimbabwean national ID/valid passport of company representative, certificate of incorporation, tax clearance certificate, proof of drone ownership, certificate of registration if aircraft is registered is registered in another country, completed CA Form 505 and resolution from at least 2/3 of board of directors that the drone be registered in the name of the organisation; and both the CR5 and CR6 forms.
According to CAAZ, for Government institutions, agencies, departments, Embassies, and Consulates, they are required to submit a letter from the director general, head of department, Vice Chancellor, Ambassador or head of Consulate, suffices in place of CR14 and CR6 forms.
Drones are unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that include a ground-based controller and a system of communications with the UAV.
In recent years, drones have made their way into homes, and, in most cases, serve as entertainment for hobbyists.
They are also a vital tool for photographers. Recently CAAZ, said drones should only be operated by licensed persons.
“In accordance with the law, that is Statutory Instrument 271 of 2018, only licensed drone pilots are expected to use and operate a drone, and anyone who is not is breaching the law.”
CAAZ regulates the ownership and usage of drones.
Whilst the potential for innovative use of drone technology is supported, the aviation authority ensures the effective and proportionate management of any potential risks.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is also exhibiting and showcasing the ongoing road and infrastructure projects, transport policies and innovations, and investment opportunities in infrastructural development at the ZITF.
