FIVE Lower Gweru men have been arrested for stealing 35 cattle at a farm.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest of Busisani Sibanda (39) of Drawcard Farm, Vungu in Lower Gweru, Emmanuel Moyo (40) and Ephraim Mazinyane (40) both of Mantiya village in Lower Gweru as well as Takurai Gumbo (53) and his son Calvin (25) of Ensors Farm in Lower Gweru.

“ZRP has arrested five suspects in connection with a case of stock theft involving 35 cattle,” Mahoko said.

“The cattle were stolen from Gilman Farm in Lower Gweru.”

He however said police recovered 33 cattle.

He said the accused allegedly cut a barbed wire at the farm before driving the cattle out.

A tip-off to the police led to Sibanda’s arrest.  He was discovered with three cattle he had already rebranded.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Gumbo and his son and eight cattle were recovered.

The remaining 22 cattle were recovered from local farmers who allegedly bought them from the suspects.

It was also discovered that Moyo was on the police wanted list for an attempted murder case he had allegedly committed at Fort Rixon.
