Convicted serial armed robbers Musa Taj Abdul and Charles Lundu, who are incarcerated at the Chikurubi Maximum Prison for several counts of armed robbery, have been hauled to court.  The duo faces a new charge of armed robbery which took place five years ago.

Abdul and Lundu are serving jail time after being convicted of possession of a firearm and one count of armed robbery.

The duo appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa who remanded them in custody to September 9, pending trial.

They were arrested in 2020 after a shoot-out with police officers at Beitbridge Border Post where they had gone on a robbery mission.

According to court papers, on February 7, 2019, at about 4pm, the complainant Tendai Victoria Chimutashu of Ballantyne Park Highlands, Harare, arrived home driving an unregistered Toyota Fortuner before she was approached by the accused persons armed with pistols as she closed her gate.

The accused, who were in the company of Wilson Brian Mungadzi demanded cash from Chimutashu before robbing her of US$5200 and fled from the scene in their unregistered getaway car, a silver BMW.

The complainant advised her husband who swiftly reacted and intercepted the accused persons.

A high-speed chase ensued and the accused persons fired some shots in order to scare away the complainant.

The accused persons then dumped their vehicle in Milton Park and fled.

The complainant made a report at ZRP Highlands Police Station and investigations were later carried out leading to the arrest of the accused persons.

Upon their arrest, the duo implicated Mungadzi.
