By Paul Nyathi| The Gwanda Magistrates court on Friday freed the Gwanda based activist who was arrested for confronting a CIO agent who abducted, tortured him and dumped him on a highway for dead.

Shyton Elliot, represented by lawyers from the Zimbabwe Lawyers For Human Rights was given free bail and remanded to appear in court on the 23rd of January for trial on charges of common assault.

According to ZimEye.com sources Elliot met up with the CIO agent at a drinking place in Gwanda town on Tuesday where-on he confronted him on why he abducted him last year. He allegedly held the state security agent and lifted him up threatening to throw him down on a hard surface before putting the officer down back on his feet.

On putting him down, the CIO agent ran for dear life to Gwanda Central police where he mobilised reinforcement in the form of 13 police officers and two other CIO agents who violently arrested Elliot.

Meanwhile, in a developing story, reports from Gwanda also indicate that about 20 people from the town have filed complaints to the police against the same CIO agent on claims of harassment against him. ZimEye.com is making follow up on the alleged reports against CIO agent and details will be made available as they become available.
