THE Democratic Official Party (DOP) has invited applications from interested citizens to represent the party in the upcoming by-elections set for December 7.

Zimbabwe is set to hold by-elections following the recall of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Members of Parliament (MPs) and councillors recently.

A CCC member, Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be the interim secretary general, recalled 15 MPs and 17 councillors belonging to the opposition party.

DOP leader, Harry Wilson, who contested in the presidential election, welcomed the recalls and revealed that they had invited applications from interested candidates.

“We have reached out to the people by asking them to submit their applications of interest to contest in the by-elections,” Wilson said.

“We are building a winning team hence we have given people an opportunity to contest the polls on our party ticket in the by-elections. The DOP has an opportunity for redemption in the upcoming by-elections.”

He added: “We are actively seeking new councillors to join our team.”

He also availed an online application form where aspiring councillors can use the link to fill in the application with the deadline having been set for November 7, 2023.

The document carries a range of questions meant to assess a candidate’s suitability for the post.

Wilson said: “We want to show unity and diversity from the normal by selecting the people’s choice to lead their own communities. We are not going to impose anyone on the communities. The communities know their respective leaders.”
