A MAN from Harare appeared before the civil court yesterday seeking a protection order against his son, whom he accused of habitual violence and property destruction fuelled by drug abuse.
Mr Enoch Mwashita, a resident of number 37 Mavhiyani, Mbare, told the court that his 27-year-old son, Rufaro Mwashita, physically assaults him and destroys his property whenever he is under the influence of drugs.
“I noticed that my son takes drugs, and he started selling household property. When I tried to stop him, he assaulted me,” Mr Mwashita said.
He further revealed that his son has brought multiple women into their home, even sleeping with them in his bed.
“My son threatens to sell the house and chase away the tenants. I tried to stop him, but he promised to make my life miserable,” Mr Mwashita added, visibly emotional.
He broke down in tears as he explained that he is now afraid to return to his own home. His son has allegedly threatened to hire a gang to attack him.
“Last week, I was threatened by unknown men who warned me to stop questioning my son about his actions,” Mr Mwashita told the court.
He also accused his son of verbally abusing him, including questioning his moral worthiness and insulting his mother.
Mr Mwashita claimed that his son has turned their home into a drug base in Mbare, inviting various individuals involved in drug-related activities. This has left him fearing for his safety.
“I fled my own house to protect my life after my son declared that he would follow me wherever I go,” Mr Mwashita said.
Presiding Magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam granted a protection order in favour of Mr Mwashita.
