DStv is introducing new packages in South Africa from 17 September 2026. The changes include new package names, revised channel lineups, a dedicated Sports package, a new Movies & Series package, updated pricing and automatic migration.
The company said it has listened to customers and wants to make its offering simpler, clearer and with more of what viewers want.
It said the new packages offer more sport, more channels and fewer repeats, and that it is strengthening its channel line-up to give customers more value and fresher content. It is the first step in a wider effort to make DStv better for customers.
In South Africa, there will now be six core packages:
- Starter – 85+ channels, from R99 per month on Stream
- Select – 100+ channels from R299 PM
- Sports – 115+ channels from R399 PM
- Movies & Series – 115+ channels, R500 PM
- Premium – 130+ channels, from R799 PM – unchanged offering
- EasyView – 35+ channels for R30 PM – unchanged offering
For the first time, DStv will have a standalone Sports package as well as a Movies & Series package that offers the best international and local entertainment, and both packages also include everything available to Select and Starter subscribers.
The Sports package brings together local and international sport. It adds every match of the Premier League, Champions League and the South African Premiership, local rugby including the Currie Cup and SA Cup, with a taste of international club rugby through the URC Match of the Week, combat sports including UFC and EFC, and cycling including the Tour de France and Cape Epic. It also includes SuperSport Cricket, which was previously only available to Premium subscribers and covers SA20, the IPL, the Proteas and Tests.
The Movies & Series package is aimed at viewers who want premium entertainment with less sport. It adds the best local and international entertainment including M-Net, kykNET, Mzansi Magic, BBC Earth, Discovery Channel and M-Net Movies+, formerly M-Net Movies 1 and 2, now available at a much lower price point than before, plus the same full PSL coverage carried over from Select.
From 17 September, all DStv customers will be automatically migrated to their new packages in phases.
Premium, Compact Plus and EasyView subscribers will stay on their current package, although Premium customers will have access to new channels. Compact Plus will no longer be available for new subscriptions. Compact subscribers will move to Sports, Family subscribers will move to Select and Access subscribers will move to Starter.
On pricing, DStv says EasyView, Compact Plus and Premium customers are unaffected and will pay the same as before, and that once you are automatically migrated, you will not pay more for your new package. For new pricing, Starter will cost R150 per month on satellite and R99 on Stream, Select will cost R339 on satellite and R299 on Stream, Sports will cost R479 on satellite and R399 on Stream, Movies & Series will cost R500 on both satellite and Stream, and Premium will cost R979 per month on satellite or R799 on a 24-month contract, and R799 on Stream.
Customers do not need to do anything for the migration, do not need a new decoder and do not need to update the DStv Stream app. Any updates will be deployed as normal.
As part of the changes, DStv has refined its channel line-up to reduce repeats and concentrate on fewer, stronger channels.
DStv said any changes in countries outside South Africa will be communicated as soon as they are confirmed.
