GOKWE South Rural District Council (RDC) will this financial year prioritise the construction of a clinic and a pre-school in Chiwara Village to improve service delivery.

Addressing villagers during the 2019 annual budget consultation feedback meeting at Chiwara Village under Chief Mazvimbakupa last week, Gokwe South RDC executive officer planning Mr Togara Mutandiro said the local authority was committed to improving service delivery by completing budgeted projects.

“The RDC is committed to improving service delivery and is devoted to fulfilling the youth and women’s request for a clinic and a pre-school,” he said.

Mr Mutandiro encouraged the youths to apply for land for projects to uplift their lives.

“Youths who are above the age of 18 can follow legal procedures for acquiring land for different purposes, it just has to be in line with the law,” he said.

The meeting was facilitated by Centre for Conflict Management and Transformation (CCMT) – a non-governmental organisation that works to minimise conflicts between villagers and authorities on matters of land development.

Mr Mutandiro said Government encourages implementation of economic empowerment and developments initiatives for youths and women across the country.

He said the youths and women have a role to play in community development processes.

Mr Justice Marufu, who was representing the youths, said they were looking forward to participating in the socio-economic development of their district, adding that it was time youths were given the opportunity to own residential and commercial stands.

“Most of us youths have no legitimate jobs to sustain us, but the national policy requires us to take part in the development processes,” he said.

“We want to know how far you have gone with meeting our demands of having land for farming, and for residential and commercial stands.

“We also requested for the construction of a clinic to shorten the distance that pregnant women were walking to the nearest health centre.

“We also requested the construction of an ECD centre because our little children are also walking very long distances to school and that is not a good thing.”
