THE trial of suspended Gweru City Council housing director Shingirayi Tigere was yesterday postponed to May 3 after he applied for relaxation of his bail conditions.

Tigere, through his lawyer Bonwell Balamanja, applied to be allowed to report once a fortnight at Strathaven Police Station in Harare, where he resides.

Gweru magistrate Miriam Banda granted the application and deferred the matter to May 3.

Tigere faces criminal abuse of office charges. He is out of custody on
$20 000 bail. He is alleged to have sold a residential stand to mayor Josiah Makombe without government

The complainant in the case is the State, represented by acting town clerk Vakai Chikwekwe.

Tigere allegedly sold the remainder of a reserved stand of Lot 17 Bickford of the Umsungwe Block measuring 7 801 square metres to Makombe, prejudicing council of $166 735.
