A 41-YEAR-OLD man from Goodhope, Westgate in Harare was yesterday arraigned before magistrate Tafadzwa Miti facing a charge of assaulting a police officer.

Blessed Masango was remanded in custody to today for bail ruling after he claimed that he had temporarily lost his mind when he committed the offence.

“My senses returned to me after I head-butted the officer as I didn’t mean to do that, I apologise,” Masango submitted.

“I was not in my right state of mind and I did not mean to do all that to a police officer. It was just a simple misunderstanding.”

He claimed he was assaulted by some police officers while in custody.

According to the court papers, on December 31 along Harare Drive at around 5:20pm, Masango was arrested for unlawful entry at Goodhope.

He was taken to Mabelreign Police Station.

The court heard that along the way, Masango became violent, and head-butted the arresting officer who at the time was driving a police vehicle.

Masango also went on to damage the windscreen of the vehicle as he attempted to flee while the car was still in motion.

He faces a separate charge of malicious damage to property.
