Harare Municipality’s Health, Disaster, Risk Management and Public Safety chairperson, Councillor Jane Bhingari has said the City of Harare does not have municipal police or traffic officers who operate without council uniforms.

This statement follows a report of a cross-border trucker who was robbed near Mitchell Cotts in Mbare by individuals who claimed to be council officers.

She urged motorists to ignore anyone purporting to be part of the municipal police force if they are not wearing council uniform.

“No one should receive a ticket from someone without a uniform, even if they produce an identity card.

“We have a binding by-law that does not allow this.

“Those working for municipal police and traffic enforcement must understand that if they are caught conducting their patrols without a uniform, they should be terminated immediatly.

“No excuses will be tolerated,” she said.
