A jailed woman has been slapped with three more years for falsification of a title deed she forged to sell a residential stand.
Betty Makura (46), who was serving time for fraud, was convicted on another fraud count by Harare magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu.
Prosecuting, Mr Boniface Musvaire proved that in August 2019, Makura placed an advert in The Herald claiming that she was selling a residential stand, Lot Number 164 Greendale Township, Harare through Heaven and Earth Real Estate.
Mr Musvaire told the court that Mr Matina Mafara, the managing director of Mattsfeeds Private Limited, who was working in the Democratic Republic of Congo, saw the newspaper advert and became interested in the stand.
He travelled to Zimbabwe and engaged his agent Revai Hamadziripi, who had previously facilitated the purchase of another Greendale stand, to broker the deal and do all the necessary paperwork and payments on his behalf.
In December 2019, Mr Mafara met Makura, who purported to be Cathrine Munyawiri, and he paid a total of US$40 000 to buy the stand. The following month, January 2020, Mr Hamadziripi was told that the title deed produced by Makura was fake. As a result, Mr Mafara lost US$40 000 and nothing was recovered.
