JUNIOR Senator, Munashe Siraha has hosted an anti-drug campaign Mvurachena Senatorial Constituency titled ‘Voices Against Vices’.
The campaign was targeting 200 school going children between the age of 10 and 20 years in Churu, Harare South and Hunyani Constituencies.
In an interview, Munashe said the campaign was aimed at localising the fight against drug abuse as the President launched the Presidential Action Plan on Drug and Substance Abuse on June 26.
“My community is vulnerable in regards to drug and substance abuse information particularly among school going children.
“We were targeting 200 people but to my surprise we witnessed 400 people attending the event.
“I’m glad that besides the majority of the audience being students, there are parents from my community who also attended in support of the event.
“This reflects that we are not alone in the fight but it requires a multi-faceted approach to end drug and substance abuse,” said Munashe.
He added:
“We are grateful of the CID Drugs and Narcotics who assisted in delivering information on drugs to students and how they are also advancing with time.
“It is very concerning that we were taught that some drugs are now even being sold by vendors at primary schools disguised as sweets or toys.
“I’m glad this came at a time when schools are about to close, and parents can be watchful of what their children are engaging in as everyone is now at risk.”
