Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo | A senior government official has told underperforming workers in the Ministry of Health and Child Care to adjust their work rate in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s expectations.

Speaking in an interview with a local community radio station last week, Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Amadeus Shamu said there was no space for lazy workers in the ministry.

He added Mnangagwa had made it clear incompetent workers would be chucked out of the ministry.

“Whether you are a nurse or a doctor, be warned that you have to prove your mettle or else you will be relieved of your duties.

We thank the President for reading the riot act.We know that there are underperforming workers in the province and we are saying please adjust your standards.

We will not hesitate to replace you with dedicated individuals,” said Shamu.

“People are dying of harmless ailments due to gross negligence on the part of our workers. This has to stop because we are also under pressure from our bosses,” said Shamu.

Nothing less than revolutionary change in civil service work culture is imperative. There are a lot of vacancies in the informal sector to be fllled by lazy civil servants looking for opportunity to work at their own pace.
