ANAESTHESIA registrars and critical care staff at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals have downed tools in solidarity with the striking doctors as medical practitioners from public hospitals vowed to press on with their industrial action until the Health Services Board (HSB) has addressed their grievances.

“We believe their fight to be just and as such, it is with a heavy hearts that we also withdraw our services as of today until the issues have been resolved by the ministry,” the anaesthesia staff said in a statement yesterday.

Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors’ Association spokesperson Mxolisi Ngwenya said their strike was still on.

“The HSB is still silent so we are still on strike,” he said.

Last week, doctors accused the HSB of acting in bad faith after it allegedly “backtracked and misrepresented” on some agreed points. Medical doctors at public hospitals have been on strike since the beginning of the month, demanding an improvement in their working conditions and provision of adequate drugs and medical equipment.

Meanwhile, Harare City Council spokesperson Michael Chideme said the doctors’ strike had increased pressure at council-run clinics.
