TRANSPORT and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has gazetted new vehicle licensing fees as contained in Statutory Instrument 10 of 2026, published in an Extraordinary Government Gazette published on Tuesday.
The SI is titled “Vehicle Registration and Licensing (Amendment) Regulations 2026”.
According to the schedule of the new fees, those registering their cars, motorcycles and trailers for the first time will pay US$50 for each transaction.
Change of ownership for a motor vehicle and buying new plates will now cost US$95, while change of ownership for the same but retaining the old plates has been set at US$15.
Change of ownership for a motorcycle or a trailer while buying new plates will now cost US$85 respectively, while change of ownership for the same while retaining the old plates will be US$15.
Replacement of a Public Service Vehicle number plates now costs US$85 while replacement of a Public Service Vehicle trailer number plate will cost US$80.
Personalised plates for a vehicle with an engine capacity of up to 1 500cc will go back for US$ 2 500 while personalised plates for vehicles with an engine capacity above 1 500cc will cost US$5 000.
A duplicate third plate has been set at US$35. Garage plates, garage licence and Abnormal Load Plate (AVR) will each cost US$50 while a Temporary Identity Card is now US$35.
Obtaining a Duplicate Registration Book and a Vehicle Licensing booklet will be US$15 and US$50 respectively.
Change of address where a vehicle is ordinarily kept at night is now US$3 the same as change of vehicle particulars, cancellation of registration and advice of sale of vehicle.
