TRANSFORM Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume’s appeal hearing against a four-year jail sentence was postponed to November 14 by the High Court yesterday.

Ngarivhume is appealing against his conviction and sentence by magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka, who found him guilty for inciting nationwide protests on July 31, 2020.

Ngarivhume is serving three years of his sentence after a year was conditionally suspended.

High Court judges Justices Pisirayi Kwenda and Benjamin Chikowero were expected to preside over the appeal hearing, but the State indicated that it was not aware of the set down date.

Ngarivhume’s lawyer Lovemore Madhuku said he filed his client’s appeal application months ago, while also insisting that his client was innocent.

“We are making very clear arguments. We think that our client has reasonable prospects that the conviction was wrong,” he said, adding that he would also be seeking recusal of Justice Chikowero on the grounds that he turned down Ngarivhume’s application for bail pending appeal.
