POLICE officers in Bulawayo, who provided security services to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) during the voters’ roll inspection exercise, have complained that they have not been paid for their services.

They told Southern Eye that they provided security services to Zec two months ago.

“It was a 10-day exercise where police officers used their own money for transport and food. We expected that this would be reimbursed early.

Zec Bulawayo provincial elections officer Innocent Ncube, however, said all service providers were paid.

“We actually paid the lump sum to their bosses or whoever is responsible to pay them. We paid everyone who took part in the exercise, and we did that through proper channels.”

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said some of the police officers were yet to be paid.

“We are not withholding any money from anybody. The money is currently being processed into their bank accounts and they will get it as soon as the technicalities are done. In fact, some police officers have already received theirs, and all will get it soon,” Nyathi said.
