The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and the Provincial Civil Protection Unit have ordered the shutdown of Ran Mine following forensic test results that revealed cyanide contamination in wells and boreholes in Bindura.

This decision comes after the bursting of the mine’s slime dam on Thursday evening, which caused a mudslide.

The areas most affected are the Clusters and Chapadze suburbs, situated near the mine, as well as a wetland that leads to the Murowane and Pote Rivers.

During a visit to the affected area, workers from the mine were seen removing mud from the yard and doorstep of a house on Dhandasi Street in Chapadze.
