Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona met with officials from local and road authorities this Monday to seek solutions for road maintenance, particularly in urban areas.
The meeting took place in Harare and included key attendees such as Permanent Secretary Engineer Joy Makumbe, Zinara board chairperson Dr George Manyaya, Zinara CEO Mr Nkosinathi Ncube, and various representatives from local authorities and stakeholders.
In an interview, Minister Mhona described the meeting as fruitful, resulting in strengthened collaboration between the Government and local authorities aimed at enhancing road maintenance nationwide.
This initiative aligns with President Mnangagwa’s mantra: “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”.
The minister assured the public that attention would soon be focused on the roads in poor condition, particularly in urban centres like Harare and Bulawayo.
This initiative follows President Mnangagwa’s extension of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2) to 2026, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to building a modern and interconnected transport network that positions Zimbabwe as a regional logistics hub.
Initially launched in March 2021 as a short-term response to extensive road damage caused by years of neglect and extreme weather, ERRP2 has evolved into a long-term national infrastructure revival initiative aimed at driving economic transformation in line with Vision 2030.
The extension of this programme is expected to accelerate the construction of new roads, the rehabilitation of existing routes, and the upgrading of drainage and safety infrastructure, particularly along key economic corridors that connect Zimbabwe with other SADC countries.
