LISTED hotelier, Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG), has spent US$26 million over the past five years to facelift its hotel properties in different parts of the country, chief executive officer (CEO) Mr Tendai Madziwanyika has said.
More recently, the group completed upgrades on its A’Zambezi River Lodge and Victoria Falls-Rainbow Hotel, both in the country’s foremost resort, for a combined cost of US$380 000.
Mr Madzivanyika said the investment demonstrated the group’s dedication to enhancing guest experiences and solidifying Victoria Falls’ status as a premier tourist destination.
Tourism is one of the key pillars of Zimbabwe’s economy, alongside agriculture, mining and manufacturing, contributing significantly to its economic growth and serving as a major source of foreign exchange.
“We are committed to creating world-class destinations that not only elevate guest experiences but also contribute to the growth of Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.”
“The investments we have made reflect our dedication to innovation and sustainability in hospitality.
‘‘The refurbishment project began on January 6, 2025, and concluded on February 20, 2025, showcasing RTG’s efficient approach to enhancing its properties,” Mr Madzivanyika said.
The RTG boss said the hotel upgrades represented a major step forward in the group’s vision to expand the variety of Zimbabwe’s tourism offerings.
“The Victoria Falls properties play a crucial role in generating the much-needed foreign currency for the country.”
A United Nations’ designated world heritage site, and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls is of immense strategic economic significance to Zimbabwe.
The upgrades to RTG’s hotel properties are not only meant to enhance guest satisfaction but also critical to attracting more local and international travellers to the region.
“With these renovations, we are not just enhancing our hotels; we are also driving national economic growth by making Zimbabwe a more appealing destination,” added Mr Madziwanyika.
He said that RTG’s broader strategic vision entailed continuous investments in its core infrastructure, as demonstrated by recent projects such as the US$500 000 upgrade of the New Ambassador Hotel in Harare and the US$5,2 million renovation of the Rainbow Towers Hotel and Harare International Conference Centre.
“These efforts align with RTG’s goal of contributing to the overall growth of Zimbabwe’s tourism landscape. As RTG continues to innovate and enhance customer experiences, the company remains focused on providing authentic hospitality that celebrates Zimbabwe’s rich heritage.
“Our commitment to excellence is unwavering. We believe that by investing in our properties, we are not only improving our services but also supporting the economic development of the communities we operate in,” Mr Madzivanyika said.
The refurbishment of the A’Zambezi River Lodge, located on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, included extensive upgrades to the hotel’s 42 rooms.
“With an investment of US$200 000, the renovations featured modernised interiors, including new furnishings crafted from rich teak wood, and upgraded electrical systems to accommodate international travellers.”
“The enhancements also embraced a calming colour palette of blues and greys, reflecting the hotel’s scenic surroundings.
‘‘At the Victoria Falls Rainbow Hotel, 44 rooms received a makeover at a cost of US$180 000,” he explained.
“This included replacing outdated furniture and fixtures, as well as modernising wall designs to achieve a sophisticated, inviting ambiance.”
“The new easy chairs provide guests a comfortable retreat after exploring the vibrant resort town.”
With the strategic investments, RTG has positioned itself as a leader in Zimbabwe’s hospitality sector, paving the way for a brighter future in tourism.
