Seven cattle were electrocuted recently after a Zimbabwe Electricity Transimission and Distribution Company electricity pole supporting electricity lines fell in the paddock where they were grazing.

The incident occurred on January 10, 2026, around 5 am. Indications are that the ZETDC pole fell due to wet ground.

Reports are that the matter came to light after a Featherstone resident, Mr Alban Clever Dete, discovered the cattle and made a police report at Featherstone Police Station.

Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the incident and urged the public to avoid building any structures near or under power lines.

“We are appealing to the public not to build any structures near ZETDC power lines and should quickly report any fallen ZETDC poles to avoid situations like this in the future,” he said.
