Nomore Muradzikwa (37), a Detective Constable from Bulawayo’s Homicide Section, appeared in court this afternoon facing murder charges for the alleged killing of his colleague, Detective Constable Cassandra Hove.
Muradzikwa appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Maxwell Ncube and was not asked to plead.
He was remanded in custody to 1 April and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Muradzikwa was represented by his lawyer Mr Tinashe Tashaya.
The court heard that on 6 March at around 8:30pm, Muradzikwa and the late Detective Constable Hove were part of a team that was investigating a case of robbery in Pumula South Suburb.
It is alleged that the accused, armed with a CZ pistol, was conducting investigations when a suspect, Fikile Ncube (26), attempted to flee.
The court heard that Muradzikwa cocked his gun and fired at Ncube, striking him in the left elbow.
However, the bullet ricocheted and struck Detective Constable Hove once in the left breast, resulting in her death.
However, Abias Hove, the deceased’s family spokesperson, said justice should prevail.
“We learned through social media that Muradzikwa would appear in court today. Consequently, some family members were unable to attend. We hope justice will be dispensed fairly.”
