Three people died while four others were injured when the driver of a Nissan NP300 lost control of the vehicle after its front left tyre burst at the 23 km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Highway on Sunday.
Reports are that the driver, identified as Mr Gabriel Chishiri, lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road, overturned thrice before landing on its wheels, killing three people.
The accident occurred at around 6 pm near Beatrice, in Mashonaland East Province. Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the accident.
“It is reported that on November 2, 2025, at around 6 pm, a fatal road accident occurred at the 23 km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road where three people were killed and four others were injured,” he said.
“The driver is among the injured.”
Police have since released the names of the three people who died in the accident.
They are Stanley Nzvengende (37) of Kuwadzana Extension, Harare, who sustained head injuries and died on the spot.
Mapakey Kingstone Ndega also of Kuwadzana Extension in Harare, died on the spot after suffering head injuries.
The third person Ostin Mudzambi (40) of Mt Pleasant Heights died on on admission at Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare.
Those who were injured are admitted at a local hospital but the driver is reported to be in a serious condition.
Inspector Chazovachiyi said the bodies of Nzvengende, Ndega and Mudzambi three were taken to Beatrice Hospital mortuary.
He appealed to drivers to make sure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on a journey.
“We also urge them to drive at safe speeds and adhere to all road rules and regulations.”
