Source: UBH records spike in paediatric admissions –Newsday Zimbabwe
THE United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) is recording an increase in patients being admitted to its paediatric ward following its reopening after 17 years of closure, acting clinical director Harrison Rambanapasi, has said.
“We have about 20 or minus patients. The number is gradually increasing and children are getting all the treatment they need,” Rambanapasi said.
“We are very happy with what the government is doing to assist us. Also we have been getting donations for instance TM Pick n Pay Supermarket donated 200 blankets for the children.”
The unit was re-opened in January this year after it had been closed due to a shortage of specialists.
Prior to its opening, all paediatric cases from the southern region were being referred to Mpilo Central Hospital.
Rambanapasi said the number of patients being admitted to the unit was increasing gradually.
In January last year, UBH revealed that it had recruited two paediatric doctors.
The new specialist doctors will be assisted by 11 other doctors at the hospital, a situation Rambanapasi said would help reduce the workload and allow for increase in admissions.
