A Masvingo based non-governmental organisation has received US$600 000 funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAid) to support its humanitarian interventions targeting food insecure communities in Chiredzi district till mid-2023.

USAid provided the funds to the Mwenezi Development Training Centre (MDTC) through its Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience (HAR) programme.

The humanitarian interventions will run from August 2022 to July 2023.
USAid said the project seeks to address climate change induced impacts such as drought to strengthen resilience and enhance food security needs of the communities.

“The activity will support the establishment of 1,000 low-cost poultry housing structures and provide four solar-powered egg incubators and 10,000 indigenous chicks,” USAid said.

“The farmers will be trained on indigenous poultry production, housing, feeding, pest and disease control using indigenous knowledge; and provide additional training in marketing, value addition, farming as a business, gender-based violence prevention, and asset maintenance.”
