Nine months after Guruve serial rapist and alleged chronic murderer Anymore Zvitsva led pathologists and police to the exhumation of the headlesss chopped remains of Charity Karembera Chidhawu in January, the family is yet to bury her remains.
Since then, the family has been waiting for forensic DNA results from the police, and subsequent release of the remains for reburial.
Nothing has materialised and the quest for closure and finality is haunting the family.
Chidhawu (24) went missing from her home on morning of March 25 2025 and on January 10 2026, Zvitsva confirmed waylaying and killing her, and her son Tendai, cooking her head and selling her breasts before leading to the exhumation of her remains, which were stashed in a sack on a mountain side at Sahondo Farm in Nyakapupu.
In an interview, yesterday family spokesperson Mr Peter Karembera Chidawu, blamed “bureaucratic bungling” at the police Criminal Investigations Department forensic section which he claims has not yielded results.
“We are a family in continuous mourning. We have not been able to bury her remains because each time I have been in touch with the CID forensic department since January, they have been promising.
“Now it is nine months while we still wait. We are seeking closure and finality by burying the remains. We have now lost hope and we have many questions in our heads. There is too much bureaucracy there,” he said.
No comment could be obtained from police yesterday.
On January 10 2026, villagers in Guruve were shocked by Zvitsva’s precision when pointing at the shallow, but firmly secured graves of Charity and her son Tendai (4), more than 10 months after he allegedly killed them.
The graves were about 100 metres apart but less than 300 metres from their homestead in Sahondo Village.
Zvitsva has since been sentenced to 89 years in prison for rape and unlawful entry but it yet to be tried for murder.
Mr Chidawu claims that he has been in touch with the police more than 2o times since January, each time being told that the results would “be out soon.”
