Prosper Ndlovu in MOSCOW, Russia
VICE President Kembo Mohadi is expected to arrive in Moscow today to fine-tune the implementation of a bilateral health services delivery agreement.
The visit follows President Mnangagwa’s recent engagements at the Russia-Africa Summit, where Zimbabwe sought to deepen economic cooperation with Russia.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Russia, Mark Grey Marongwe, confirmed the visit, saying bilateral relations must shift from political diplomacy to tangible economic benefits.
“What the Vice President is coming to address is implementation; we are at the implementation stage of the Memoranda of Understanding across the economy,” Ambassador Marongwe said.
“He will visit a company that manufactures pharmaceuticals and medical equipment to assess what opportunities can be pursued and what can be achieved.”
Ambassador Marongwe said Zimbabwe’s economic diplomacy is focused on value addition and local resource beneficiation rather than merely exporting raw materials.
This strategy aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 objectives.
“We are not looking at a situation where Russia comes to our markets with goods produced in Russia and sells them while simply extracting raw materials from us,” he said.
“Let us reach a position where both sides benefit. We are saying, yes, we are friends, let us work together. With mutual benefit, that is sustainable.”
The Ambassador highlighted Russia’s advanced capabilities in high-tech medicine, cancer treatment, artificial intelligence and agricultural technology as key areas for strategic cooperation.
“In those highly technical areas, we need engagement from both sides so that we secure the best deal for our people,” he said.
