THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has elected a new national executive chaired by Andrease Mathibela who replaces Christopher Mutsvangwa.

Mutsvangwa was recently appointed War Veterans and Welfare minister after leading the association for several years. Other members of the executive are Blessed Runesu Geza as vice-chairperson, Edward Dube (secretary-general), Livingstone Chineka (finance secretary), Aloise Chimeri as (information secretary) and Karen Kazingizi (welfare secretary).

“We, the newly-elected national executive of ZNLWVA, extend our warmest greetings and heartfelt gratitude to all war veterans across the country. It is with great honour and a deep sense of responsibility that we stand before you today, entrusted with the task of representing your interests and aspirations,” Mathibela said.

In an interview with NewsDay, Geza said the new executive is planning to improve the welfare of the liberation fighters.

“The new executive takes off with a defined roadmap emanating from the congress resolutions and it’s no longer  business as usual,” he said.

“Our needs, concerns, and aspirations will remain at the forefront of our agenda as we work tirelessly to ensure that our sacrifices are duly recognised and appreciated.

“To achieve this, we will engage with relevant stakeholders to address issues such as land, healthcare, housing, education, entrepreneurship opportunities, and financial support,” Geza added.
