THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has commended the Second Republic, under President Mnangagwa, for prioritising the welfare of veterans through dedicated socio-economic and empowerment programmes.

Addressing a Press conference in Harare this afternoon, ZNLWVA spokesperson Cde Cornelius Muwoni emphasised the Government’s sustained commitment to addressing their concerns, while outlining key areas for further engagement.

“We will continue to engage with the Government to ensure our concerns are addressed. We are appealing to the relevant Government departments to release funds for the school fees of the children of war veterans,” stated Cde Muwoni.

He dismissed any suggestions of confrontational tactics, stressing the association’s principled approach to dialogue.

“We are adults who do not oppose the Government for the sake of argument. Whenever we have issues with the Government, we engage them amicably. All matters concerning war veterans are communicated through the association’s official channels,” he said.

Cde Muwoni highlighted ongoing appeals for increased pensions, enhanced healthcare services, and continued educational support for veterans’ children. He acknowledged that the Second Republic has opened doors for the association, ensuring grievances receive prompt attention through an influx of tailored programmes from various sectors.

“We will continue to push for more presentations and appeals to the President for more programmes for us,” he added.

Beyond welfare issues, Cde Muwoni called for greater representation of veterans in national structures. “At the same time, we do not want to be cry-babies, but it is our time to demand quotas in areas such as Parliament or in Government departments — we must get it,” he asserted.

The Government remains committed to enhancing the welfare of veterans and their beneficiaries, continuing the rollout of empowerment programmes in recognition of their supreme sacrifice for the nation. Current benefits include monthly pensions, educational support up to university level, medical aid, land allocation, and other economic projects.

Furthermore, the Government continues the programme of exhuming and according dignified reburials to fallen comrades.
