In the first 50 days of the first 100-day cycle of the year, the Government has seen through the completion of Mutawatawa New Magistrate Court, the registration of 57 schools across the country while the Gwanda New Court Complex is nearing completion.

Under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, the Second Republic has made significant strides in delivering on its promises to the people of Zimbabwe, with various initiatives and services having been rolled out across the country, towards improving the lives of the general citizenry.

This development push is part of the Government’s broader vision to achieve an empowered and prosperous upper-middle-income society by 2030.

In line with the Government’s thrust of decentralising services in the justice delivery system, several developments including the construction of Magistrates Courts and rehabilitation programmes for inmates have been rolled out.

In Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting,  Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi highlighted achievements under his purview as at day 50 of the first 100 day cycle of the year.

“Construction of the super structure to ring beam and ring beam concreting of the Kwekwe New Magistrate Court in Midlands Province, and construction of the super structure to ring beam and ring beam concreting of Cowdray Park New Magistrate Court in Bulawayo are progressing,” said Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere in a post-Cabinet media briefing.

The rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates through agriculture is another area that is progressing well under the Justice Ministry’s purview, with successful production projects at Anju, Mazowe, Mutimurefu and Hurungwe Prison Farms.

Rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates through capacitating the Building Brigade was also successfully undertaken through construction works at the prisons’ farms.

“Rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates through the MacDonald Bricks Inmates Employment Programme was also successful, with five ex-inmates having secured permanent employment at MacDonald Bricks,” said Dr Muswere.

Under the Human Capital Development pillar of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), the Second Republic has seen through the construction and registration of schools countrywide, pursuant to Government’s thrust of an educated society.

“Construction of a classroom block at E.D. Mnangagwa Secondary School in Mutoko District, Mashonaland East Province is 80 percent complete.

“Construction of the new, Gideons Secondary in Gutu, Masvingo Province is at 82 percent of completion; while construction of a block at a new school, Tamuka B Satellite in Bindura, Mashonaland Central Province has been completed.

“Construction of a 10 classroom double-storey block including a computer laboratory at Harare High School in Mbare, Harare Metropolitan Province has been completed, while construction of a double-storey block and computer laboratory at Gangarahwe Primary School in Hurungwe, Mashonaland East is ongoing,” said Dr Muswere.

“Construction of a 2-storey classroom block at Karoi Junior School in Hurungwe District, Mashonaland West Province is nearing completion.”

Construction works to upgrade the Runyararo Adventist in Masvingo, Sinoia Primary in Makonde District, Mashonaland West Province, Hozvi Primary, ECD Centre in Bikita, Coban Global Primary in Gweru, Mambodzvuku Secondary in Murehwa, Seke 2 High in Chitungwiza, Rusitu High in Chimanimani and St Pauls High in Gokwe are at an advanced stage.

The building of sustainable and affordable boarding facilities is also nearing completion at Progress College in Gweru, Gumbonzvanda in Hwedza, Tafira High in Murombedzi, Howard Secondary in Mazowe, Kadhanya Secondary and Donsa Secondary in Kwekwe, and St Mary’s in Hwedza.

On the Youth, Sport and Culture pillar of the NDS1, the construction of a Multipurpose Court at Karigamombe in Zvimba District, Mashonaland West Province, that will accommodate 3 sport codes, is almost complete.

Work is also in progress to install bucket seats as part of the refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium in Harare, with those at the VIP area and bays 19, 20 and 21 having been installed.

“This is progress that has been registered and at the same time I want to assure you that before year end, we believe that the National Sports Stadium will have been completed in terms of renovations…and we will be in a position to be able to have our games in Zimbabwe,” said Dr Muswere.

Ahead of this year Independence Day, construction of Nembudziya Stadium in Gokwe South is also progressing well.

This year’s Independence commemorations will be held in Gokwe-Nembudziya, in line with Government’s decentralisation of national events.

Apart from that, the Gym Facility in Warren Park, Harare Metropolitan Province has reached 80 percent of completion, with commissioning of the facility expected this month.

“Translation of a summary version of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Capacity Building into five languages, namely: Venda, Sotho, Tonga, Ndau and Sign Language has been completed, and the project awaits printing and production of booklets. Works on the establishment of the Victoria Falls Gallery and at the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Digital Registration Platform are ongoing,” said Dr Muswere.
