RUSSIA-Zimbabwe ties have stood the test of time for the sake of regional and global security stability, Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Nikolai Krasilnikov has said.
Speaking at a reception to mark the Russian national holiday —Defender of the Fatherland Day, which is celebrated annually on February 23, Ambassador Krasilnikov highlighted that, Russia and Zimbabwe share a common vision for the future.
“And the same can be said about my country and Africa in general. No African state is unfriendly towards Russia. Not a single country on the continent has joined anti-Russian sanctions. The reason is obvious. Together we advocate for strengthening the continent’s role in a multipolar world that is taking shape through our joint efforts to be based on the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety,” he said.
As a UN Security Council Permanent Member, Russia strongly supports Africa’s legitimate aspiration to expand the body’s representation as well as in other multilateral institutions. Mr Krasilnikov reiterated his country’s support for Zimbabwe’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security giving Harare a major boost for its candidacy.
Russia, Ambassador Krasilnikov said, has always strictly adhered to the principle of “African solutions to African problems.”
