Working together in combating corruption could enhance economic growth and strengthen bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and China, the Asian country’s top envoy has said.

Speaking after a meeting with Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission chairperson Michael Reza recently, Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding said he had outlined his country’s firm anti-corruption stance and lessons that could be drawn to advance “clean” cooperation between the two countries.

“Sharing China’s anti-corruption philosophy and achievements, I highlighted our zero-tolerance stance — an approach that resonates with the Zimbabwean government’s resolve to combat corruption as an enemy of development,” the ambassador wrote on his official X account.

“We expressed readiness to enhance anti-corruption exchanges and facilitate capacity building programmes, jointly advancing the vision of a clean “Belt and Road”.”

The engagement came at a time ordinary citizens and civil society organisations have been raising alarm over rampant corruption in the country, which they say is bleeding the economy.
