Zimbabwe earns US$309m from tobacco exports

Zimbabwe tobacco exports have generated US$309,593,921 from the sale of 48,305,845 kilogrammes at an average price of US$6, 41 per kg to different destinations.

Statistics from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board(TIMB) indicate that during the same period last year, the total value of tobacco exports was US$405,617,433 from the 68,238,276 kilogrammes sold at an average price of US$5.94 per kilogramme.

The Far East Market has been the major destination of the semi processed leaf after procuring 29, 449,159 kg of tobacco worth US$238, 092,609 from Zimbabwe at an average price of US$8,08 per kg.

Africa is on the second position after buying 6 642 707kg valued at US$29,044 838 at an average price of US$4,37 per kg.

The European Union (EU) imported 4, 429, 050 kg of tobacco from Zimbabwe worth US$ 23, 374, 248 at an average price of US$5,28 per kg.

In the fourth position is the Middle East which bought 4,975,138 kg worth US$ 10,545,293 at an average price of with US$2,12 per kg.

Zimbabwe exported 2,363,440 kg valued at US$ 7, 184, 535 to Americas at an average price of US$3,04 per kg.

Europe bought 417,800 kg worth US$1,111,066 at US$2,66 per kg while the Oceania bought 28,560 kg worth US$241,332.

Oceania offered the highest price of US$8,45 per kg.

The Zimbabwean tobacco is popular at the international market because of its flavour.
